RX Drugs Information:
Crinone® (progesterone gel) is a bioadhesive vaginal gel containing micronized progesterone in an emulsion system, which is contained in single use, one piece polyethylene vaginal applicators. The carrier vehicle is an oil in water emulsion containing the water swellable, but insoluble polymer, polycarbophil. The progesterone is partially soluble in both the oil and water phase of the vehicle, with the majority of the progesterone existing as a suspension. Physically, Crinone has the appearance of a soft, white to off-white gel.
DIFFERIN (adapalene) Gel, 0.3% contains adapalene 0.3% (3 mg/g) in a topical aqueous gel for use in the treatment of acne vulgaris, consisting of carbomer 940, edetate disodium, methylparaben, poloxamer 124, propylene glycol, purified water, and sodium hydroxide. May contain hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment.
TAZORAC® (tazarotene gel) Gel is a translucent, aqueous gel and contains the compound tazarotene, a member of the acetylenic class of retinoids. It is for topical dermatologic use only. The active ingredient is represented by the following structural formula:
BIONECT® Cream is a white, viscous cream. BIONECT® Gel is a clear, colorless gel. The principal component is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid (0.2%). Hyaluronic acid is a biological polysaccharide (glycosaminoglycan) and is a major component of the extracellular matrix of connective tissues.
Naftin® (naftifine) Gel, 1% contains the synthetic, broad-Spectrum, antifungal agent naftifine hydrochloride. Naftin ® Gel, 1% is for topical use only.
Brevoxyl-4 Gel (benzoyl peroxide gel) and Brevoxyl-8 Gel are topical preparations containing benzoyl peroxide 4% and 8%, respectively, as the active Ingredient In a gel vehicle containing purified water, cetyl alcohol, dimethyl Isosorblde, fragrance, simethicone, stearyl alcohol and ceteareth-20.
Oraqix® (lidocaine and prilocaine periodontal gel,) 2.5%/2.5% is a microemulsion in which the oil phase is a eutectic mixture of lidocaine and prilocaine in a ratio of 1:1 by weight. This eutectic mixture has a melting point below room temperature, therefore both local anesthetics exist as liquid oils rather than as crystals. Oraqix® (lidocaine and prilocaine periodontal gel) contains poloxamer excipients, which show reversible temperature-dependent gelation. Together with the lidocaine-prilocaine 1:1 mixture, the poloxamers form a low-viscosity fluid system at room temperature and an elastic gel in the periodontal pocket. Oraqix® (lidocaine and prilocaine periodontal gel) is administered into periodontal pockets, by means of the supplied special applicator. Gelation occurs at body temperature, followed by release of the local anesthetics, lidocaine and prilocaine. The Oraqix® (lidocaine and prilocaine periodontal gel) single-use glass cartridges deliver up to 1.7g (1.7mL) of gel (42.5 mg of lidocaine and 42.5 mg of prilocaine). Prilocaine base and lidocaine base are both relatively hydrophilic amino-amides.
Desonate contains desonide [(pregna-1, 4-diene-3, 20-dione,11, 21-dihydroxy-16, 17-[(1-methylethylidene) bis(oxy)]-,(11?,16?)]- a synthetic nonfluorinated corticosteroid for topical dermatologic use. Chemically, desonide is C24H32O6. It has the following structural formula:
METROGEL® Topical Gel contains metronidazole, USP, at a concentration of 7.5 mg per gram (0.75%) in a gel consisting of carbomer 940, edetate disodium, methylparaben, propylene glycol, propyl-paraben, purified water, and sodium hydroxide. Metronidazole is classified therapeutically as an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent. Chemically, metronidazole is named 2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazole-1-ethanol and has the following structure:
Targretin® (bexarotene) gel 1% contains bexarotene and is intended for topical application only. Bexarotene is a member of a subclass of retinoids that selectively activate retinoid X receptors (RXRs). These retinoid receptors have biologic activity distinct from that of retinoic acid receptors (RARs).
